Motion to Protect 52 Girls

AND AblationA Councillor at the Granada City Hall, Maite Molina, will be putting forward a motion at the next Plenary Meeting concerning ablation.

The motion will call for the City Hall to use all its power to prevent 52 girls in the province from possibly going through clitoral amputation (ablation). The risk, the IU considers, exists when these girls are taken ‘on holiday’ to their home country to have this form of genital mutilation carried out on them.

The IU council came by the number (52, between the age of 0 and 14) in a report by to the Fundación Wassu, at the autonomic university in Barcelona.

The councillor considers that the Junta and City Hall should work through the medical centres to keep a tag on the ‘physical state’ of the girls and carrying out an ‘awareness’ protocol with the parents.
