Three Quarters of a Million in the Boot

AND Money in Boot OnLThe Guardia Civil were surprised to find 753,000 euros in the boot of a car at a control point. The driver said he had no idea how it had got there.

The incident occurred near the exit for Baza on the A-92 at the beginning of the month.

For some reason the police had decided that the 72-year-old driver looked suspicious, so they stopped him. It was whilst they were poking through the boot that they came across three quarters of a million euros hidden under the spare wheel.

The driver expressed surprise to see it there and offered as a possible reason for its materializing in the boot of his car, that it might be connected to the sale of heavy machinery. However, he had no bill of sale to prove it.

Article 34 of the Ley 10/2010 stipulates that those involved in the moving of cash in excess of 100,000 euros within the country must declare the individuals directly involved and 3rd parties indirectly involved in the transaction pertaining to the money.

The gentleman concerned is a Moroccan living in the city of Algeciras, which might explain why the Guardia Civil thought that an elderly gentleman looked ‘suspicious…’
