A woman left her two children, aged three and seven, alone at home whilst she went out for the night, returning 24 hours later. The incident occurred in Órgiva around mid January.
The father of the children, who is separated from the mother, contacted his ex-sister-in-law, to see if she had a spare key as he had reason to believe that his kids had been left unattended at home.
At the same time, he phoned the local, Guardia Civil post, asking them to go around and check the house out., which they did, and discovered that the children were effectively completely unattended, despite their young age.
Fortunately, both children were fine, although the elder one was understandably nervous by the presence of uniformed strangers.
It turned out that they had been left to their own devices from around eight on Saturday night and remained so until the police found them just after 16.00h – in other words, nearly 24 hours.
The 23-year-old mother didn’t turn up until Monday morning to reclaim her children. She does not have, however, any record for similar offences, as it appears it was the first time that she had decided to “travel up to the city of Granada to have a few drinks,” as her husband claimed. She, however, claimed that she had gone there to hand out copies of her C.V., but either way, the children had been temporarily abandoned.
