Obituary: Brian Lees

Obit Lees PicBrian died in Motril hospital on New Year’s Day after a short illness, bravely fought.

He will be remembered as one of the first “working” farming foreigners who came to La Herradura in October 1985 with his wife Wendy and their 5-year-old daughter, Katie.

Their caravan sat overlooking their fledgling avocado farm with the familiar sandy-coloured Landrover taking and collecting Katie – and in time, sharing school-delivery duties with others – to the local school, Las Gaviotas on the beach.

Instead of retirement, Brian changed jobs and settled down to try his hand at avocado farming and later on, pig rearing; a Project which continued until the motorway ploughed its way half-way through the farm.

Brian’s optimistic, charming and gentlemanly nature followed in his shadow and he was loved by friends and neighbours, foreign and Spanish alike.

He is survived by his wife Wendy, their daughter Katie, his daughters Fiona Howard, Karen Tedstone and son Anthony Lees. Ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren follow on.

We wish him a peaceful, restful and happy time until we meet again.
With love…
