A 35-year-old woman was arrested in Madrid after allegedly throwing her newborn baby out of a window.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the 24th of December, when the mother, who had maintained her pregnancy a secret, gave birth to the child in her parents’ house.

According to police reports, as soon as the baby was emerged she cut the umbilical cord, wrapped the infant in a pair of trousers and threw it out of the kitchen window, into a central patio some 2.5 metres below.

She then called for help to her parents, complaining of a heavy bleeding, who took her to the nearest hospital.

With daylight and back at home, the mother of the woman discovered the baby in the patio. She immediately contacted the police who raced around. The baby’s heart had stopped and it was suffering from hypothermia. The police managed to revive the baby whilst waiting for the ambulance.

The baby was hospitalized and its conditions was described as “reserved.”

In the meantime, the mother of the child, who has two other children of eight and five, has been charged with attempted murder.

Finally, the grandmother of the child says that she recalls waking up during the night with a start, having thought that she had heard a baby crying.
