A municipal policeman was seriously injured during a motorbike police chase when he came off his machine. The 24-year-old policeman suffered several fractured ribs, a stomach perforation and spleen damage.

A police patrol witnessed how a moped rider on Calle Cartuja, in the centre of Motril, was doing wheelies and other dangerous manoeuvres. They also saw that the number plate did not correspond to the make of moped, leading them to suspect that it had been stolen.

They raced after him with the chase ending in Calle Santísimo where one of the police riders managed to come along side the moped. However, the man gave the police bike a kick causing the rider to fall off… right onto a pavement post.

Although his life is not in danger, he is in a pretty poor state. This incident took place only 24 hours after a municipal police rider was killed in a traffic accident in Sevilla.

Both the Policía Nacional and the Policía Local are trying to identify the rider and track down his whereabouts.
