AND SoroptmistWednesday last week saw the ladies from Soroptimist International Club Costa del Sol prepare special Christmas parcels at the Red Cross for 450 families in need in the Municipality of Mijas.

“We always try to help the Red Cross at this time of year,” said Jenny van der Mark, Club President, “and this year our wish is to help bring some Christmas celebration to these families by giving them speciality foods.”

The local Soroptimist branch in Mijas made money through sales at stalls in two different Christmas markets. The Club also received generous donations from the Danish Freemasons, Soroptimist members and friends, as well as the sale of shares in the National Christmas Lottery, el Gordo.

“We especially want to thank the GM Cash & Carry for giving us such tremendous help in purchasing the extra goodies for the food parcels,” added Jenny, “and a big thank you to the Mayan Monkey Chocolate Factory in Mijas for some added chocolate fun.”

Through all the donations the Club was able to make special parcels containing sugar, instant chocolate drink, polvorones and mantecados, chocolate buttons and sweets which the Red Cross would be handing out over the Christmas period along with the classic food parcel.

The Club is part of a worldwide NGO with more than 90,000 members in over 125 countries, all professional women who want to help empower, enable and educate women.
