The Euromillions jackpot slammed into Almuñécar on the Costa Tropical, Granada yesterday – the ticket holder was the only one with the winning number, so 100% of the 100,000,000 euros is theirs… Well not quite; thanks to the Government’s new law, they take 20% in tax, bless their cotton socks.

Our photo shows the very proud proprietor, Carolina, outside her lottery shop, where the lucky ticket was purchased, in the Plaza de la Rosa; one of the oldest in town and one that already had a reputation for being ‘lucky’.

Whoever it was – and they’re not shouting about it – spent just ten euros, chose five numbers and two stars and suddenly became the owner of more money than the entire local economy.

The national lottery administration, Loterías y Apuestas del Estado has confirmed the win.

Yet despite this numbing amount of money, it is only the fourth highest ever handed over by the Lotería Primitiva en España group. The largest ever landed in Madrid on the 8th of May 2009 and totaled 126,231,764 euros.

Getting back to Friday’s win, there were also two winners to share the Second Prize (five numbers and one star), one of whom lives in Madrid and the other Barcelona.

But don’t despair because there is still 15m euros for the next lottery, which you will be pleased to hear is just enough to buy one particular English-language magazine based in Almuñécar!

The winning combination, by the way was: 3, 13, 15, 29 & 42. The Stars were 1 and 4.
