What’s on in Motril in November

MOT Theatre CalderonNo chance of feeling bored in Motríl this month, with a great line-up of entertainment and cultural events.

Starting with alternative cinema, which is shown every Wednesday and Friday at 8pm in the Centro Cultural de la General; a new film every week, so check the board for details! Moving right along to theatrical productions, 1 Más 1 No Son Dos is a comedy exploring the foibles of three men who move in with one another in later life, after a series of broken relationships. Guaranteed to make you laugh and pull a few heartstrings along the way, a brilliant way to sharpen up your Spanish while having fun.

Showing 2nd November at 9pm in the Teatro Calderón de la Barca. If drama is more to your taste, then Misterio Costa Tropical will be performed for three nights (6th, 7th and 8th of November) by the group’Dando el Cante. Entry is free and the show begins at 6pm.

Also in the Teatro Calderón, on the 9th November, you can look forward to the Italian playwright, Dario Fó’s play, Aquí no page nadir, as performed from 9:30pm by Teatro Segundo Acto.

Continuing at the Teatro Calderón and for a different look at the legal world and its prejudices, look no further than Razas, performed by the troupe ‘Tal y Cual’ on 16th November at 8:30pm.

To top it all off, pop this one in your diary, as it is a combination of drama, lyric poetry, ballet and music, scheduled for 30th November from 9pm and entitled Poeta y Mendigo, with a tagline that reads, “What would we be capable of if we could be the authors of our own destiny?” There’s no points for guessing, that an enigmatic treat lies in store for those willing to go along to the Teatro Calderón and pay the entry fee of €10-€15.

Focusing on the singing side, apparently it’s the second centenary of the death of composer Giuseppe Verdi and the Motril choir are set to sing his praises on Saturday 23rd November from 7pm in the Teatro Calderón. There is no charge for this concert.

Finally, I’m not sure whether you’re aware that November is Youth Month and to celebrate this all the Motril museums are allowing free entry for students. The Councillor for Youth has even organised free tours throughout the city. The Municipal Youth Centre will be holding various exhibitions and they even have a huge paintball challenge planned for  the 16th of November for those who dare….!
