Scarce Night Patrolling

The IU opposition party considers the level of night policing in Nerja over the summer as scandalous. They claim that only two policemen were available to cover a town with a summer population of around 80,000 inhabitants.

During the daytime, there were 14 municipal policemen on duty, but only two to patrol the streets at night.

The IU Spokesman, Telesforo Romero, said that they had asked the Mayor about this during a Plenary Meeting but he had only responded, “I have no knowledge of this.” For this reason the IU criticises the Mayor, José Alberto Armijo, for “eluding his responsibility on such important matters.”

The Councillor for Citizen Safety, on the other hand, rejected these accusations and described them as “frivolous and irresponsible.”
