Fund raising and food collection can be fun, particularly if the community works together! Certainly, this is the message that the Councillor for the Department of Youth, together with the Youth Association Calíope, are trying to convey in Motril.
Sunday 21st September has been set aside as a day for musical, sporting and recreational activities in the Pueblos de las Americas Park. With something for the young and not so young, this day has been planned to include musical performances by local bands, keep fit activities for kids and workshops focusing on arts and crafts. Equipment has been donated by local businesses, to add further to the success of this event.
Activities are scheduled from 12 midday to 12 midnight and what people attending are asked to contribute are non-perishable items of food. These will, in turn to be passed on to the homeless shelter, Jesús Abandonado, based in Murcia. This shelter can accommodate up to 140 people overnight and as you can imagine, with things as they are currently, has a pretty tough job keeping up with the demand from people in difficulty!
