Naval Exhibition

La Herradura is holding a naval exhibition as part of the 451st commemoration of the 1562 shipwreck disaster in the bay. Twenty-five galleys were sunk by a storm with around 5,000 lives lost.

The exhibition is provided by the Liga Naval, who are exhibiting ships from all eras. Also on display are paintings by Esteban Arrigana, whose maritime-theme paintings are in many museums and naval buildings.

The Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, mentioned the success of the naval exhibition last year; i.e. the 450th Anniversary. Indeed, one of the Partido Popular‘s electoral pledges was to promote this historic event in the history of the village.

The Commanding Officer of the naval base in Almería, Blas Romero López, announced that prior to the 19th of October (the shipwreck occurred on that date) there is a possibility that he will be able to provide a Spanish Navy ship to take part in the commemoration.

The exhibition will be open until the 21st of this month. It is open everyday of the the week, mornings and afternoons, 09.00 – 14.00h & 17.00h – 21.00h at the Centro Cívico in La Herradura.
