Although the completion of the A-7 autovia remains illusive, Motril is preparing its road network to connect up with the eastern autovia exit.
It should be remembered that the east exit will be the town’s principal autovia connection. Up until now, the main entrance to the town has always been the Carretera de Candelón but with the autovia it will be the Carreterra de Puntalón. La Candelón is the road running past Al Campo from the N-340; i.e, eventually becoming the Avenida Salobreña.
Although, according to the Central Government’s own estimates, the Gorgorach-Puntalón section of the A-7 won’t be ready until 2015, the Motril Town Hall doesn’t want to be caught with the autovia double-lane traffic having to funnel down into single-lane traffic at the entrance to the town, so the first phase to convert the existing road to 2-lane traffic is being carried out between the Plaza de Toros to Puerto Palido. There will be two lanes off the autovia and one lane onto it.
Funds are tight, so it has to be done by stages.
