Rich List Rage

Have you heard the one about the Saudi Prince billionaire who, despite having more personal money than some small countries, has decided to sue Forbes Magazine for underestimating his wealth? Sorry, it’s not a joke… he really is suing them!

In the present economic climate, it is unlikely that ‘hard-done-by’ Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, will get much sympathy, especially as he is allegedly worth around 12bn euros. That, by the way, is the figure he is disputing, after the magazine put him 26th in the world rankings of the stinking rich. He reckons he is worth at least 16bn euros and has taken out the law suit claiming defamation and bias by the publication against people from the Middle East.

The outcome thus far is that Forbes has not moved from their original position and have suggested that the prince was living in an ‘alternate reality’ if he thinks that is how much he is worth. Whilst, on the other side of the coin (so to speak), Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, will now try to prove to the court in London, that the ranking has caused him to suffer financially or that his reputation has been harmed. If he wins, of course, he will be seeking damages.

Meanwhile, the entire UK government is suffering a backlash from some sections of the press, public and parliament for setting aside 375m pounds, during difficult times, to help the world’s hungriest children… barely a fraction of the prince’s wealth. What a strange world we live in!
