The Torrox Town Hall has started the first phase of sorting the traffic congestion out in the old town.
The first task was to improve the accessibility for the old town from the Frigiliana road, which goes around the northern part. To do this Calles Puerta del Sol, Fuentes, Pontil and Álamos, as well as the Plaza de San Roque have been adapted to 2-way traffic
The Mayor of Torrox, Francisco Muñoz (PSOE), explained how this measure has been made possible by “maximizing existing infrastructure, such as the El Pontil Parking,” which has the capacity to cater for 277 vehicles on four floors. It is publicly owned and cost 1.7m euros.
The Mayor considers that the old town is an area with “great possibilities for fostering economic activities.”
The next area to receive some attention to imporve traffic flow will be La Avenida de Compéta or the town centre.
