Almuñécar Blue Zones Trimmed

Both Almuñécar and La Herradura have seen their blue zoning reduced, which is evident even without the announcement made by the Councillor for Traffic, Juan José Ruiz Joya.

In the case of Almuñécar, Calles, Alcalde Julio Fajardo, Cariñena, Hurtado de Mendoza, Plaza de Abderramán, Paseo de las Flores and Plaza Madrid have reverted to free parking. In the case of La Herradura, Calle Unidad has undergone the same.

Apart from eliminating existing blue zones, the special passes for residents on the remaining blue zones have become cheaper, and quite a lot so, dropping from €180 to just €50 per year.

In Councillor Ruiz Joya opinion this move was a case of his party keeping its electoral pledge to sort the blue zoning out, thus reducing the tax burden on locals.

As for operating times, blue zones will be operative from Monday to Saturday, 09.00h to 14.00h in the following streets:

Zone 1: Calle Baracoa, Mariana Pineda and Avenida Juan Carlos I.

Zone 2: Avenida de  Andalucía.

Zone 3: Avenida Costa del Sol, from the Río Seco bridge (next to Radiovision) up to La Carrera de la Concepción (The main fountain with the huge flag).

Zone 4: Calle Guadix (from Avenida Costa del Sol down to Calle Juan de la Cierva and Avenida Europa. It also includes Callejón del Virgo, Avenida de Cala and Plaza Kuwait.

Zone 6: (La Herradura) Calle Alhambra, from the Calle Eucalipto crossroad to Calle Unidad, including Calle Eucalipto itself and la Avenida Prieto Moreno.

As for the seasonal variation schedule, summer blue zoning runs from the 1st of July to the 31st of August – Semana Santa is also considered high season from Good Friday to Easter Sunday. During these periods the blue zones will be operating seven days a week, from 11.00h to 15.00h and then from 19.00h to 22.00h. During the high-season period, the maximum that a car can occupy a blue-zone slot is six hours per day.

Finally, summer and Semana Santa, will see three special zones:

Zone 7: will be operative and icludes the paseos: Puerta del Mar and Velilla, Playa Tesorillo, Playa El Pozuelo, Avenida Adolfo Suárez, Plaza de Abderramán, Paseo de Las Flores, San Cristóbal, de la China and Cotobro up to Edificio Los Ramos.

Zone 8: Avenida Mar de Plata, Calle Pirámide and Avenida Amelia Sánchez de Alcázar, from the Mar de Plata junction to the Calle Pirámide junction.
