The Midsummer Madness Ball
Mark your calendar for Friday, June 21 as the date of the Costa Animal Society’s Annual Midsummer Madness Ball. This year CAS is having a Shipwreck Party so dress up in what you were wearing when the ship went down and dance away the longest day of the year!

The evening starts at 7.00pm and includes pre-dinner drinks with canapés, a four course meal (menu choice) with wine, followed by coffee and liqueurs. The entertainment will be provided by the fabulous Flying Dolphins and there will be a Grand Raffle with fantastic prizes, so buy your raffle tickets early.

The ball will be held at the Hotel Rural Almazara on the road between Nerja and Frigiliana. Tickets are 35 euros per person, which will be money well spent on a fun filled evening of food and drink, dancing and entertainment.

Book well in advance at the CAS office at 952 523 607 or with Diana at 679 714 612.

Flea, tick and mosquito season
With the warmer weather approaching, the Costa Animal Society would like to remind people to step up their vigilance against fleas, ticks, worms and other parasites which can possibly transmit diseases such as Lyme Disease and Leishmaniasis to your pets.

Consult your vet about spot-on treatments, collars, worming treatments and inoculations. And remember, prevention is often the best cure.

Mini’s Story
Mini was abandoned when a young Spanish couple found they could no longer look after her. Both of her owners lost their jobs last year and after struggling for months they had to give up their apartment in Torrox Costa.

Their only option of survival was to move in with the young woman’s mother, who lives in a small flat of her own in Madrid, but Mini would have to be left behind.

Mini is a small whippet sized, female dog who weighs about seven kilos. She is very sweet natured and maybe a little bit excitable, but that may be because she does not quite comprehend what has happened to her once happy life.

If you could find a place in your home for this lovely little dog, please call Seacrest on 95 252 1426.

CAS Quiz Nights
The March quiz night at the Boathouse Bar raised a much needed 190 euros for the Costa Animal Society.

The next CAS quiz at the Boathouse Bar, near the Monica Riu Hotel in Nerja, will be on May 24 at 8.00pm when the quizmaster will be Christine Kavanagh. Food and drink is available at the bar, as well as a special two course meal for 7.95 euros.

There will be a raffle, and entry to the quiz is three euros with proceeds going directly to CAS. Please book with Peter at 600 397 029.

Meanwhile, the Punta Lara Bar in Nerja will be hosting its next quiz in aid of the Costa Animal Society in May 14 at 8.30pm. Food and drink is available at the bar and the quiz entrance fee of three euros goes directly to CAS.

Mick Stevens will be your quizmaster and advanced booking is recommended. Please call Mark or Jaime to book your spot at 635 369 673.

CAS will also be hosting a twice monthly quiz at Hotel Villa Flamenca on May 7 and 21. The start time is 9.00pm and the three euros per head quiz fee and raffle proceeds go directly to the CAS coffers. Food and drink is available through the hotel.

Please contact Maree at 619 965 025 if you would like to attend the quizzes or one of the other events held by CAS at the hotel.

Tea Dance at Hotel Villa Flamenca
The first Afternoon Tea Dance held at Nerja’s Villa Flamenca Hotel on April 19 to raise money for the Costa Animal Society proved to be a resounding success. As well as dancing led by well-known local instructors Jennifer and Eric Joules, everyone enjoyed a splendid afternoon tea provided by Ruth Barker.

The next Tea Dance at the Hotel Villa Flamenca will be on Friday, May 24 from 3.00pm until 6.00pm. Eric and Jennifer will be hosting the event once again, so don your Sunday best and dust off your dancing shoes for an afternoon of dancing fun.

The tickets at 10 euros per person include afternoon tea. Book at the CAS office on 95 252 3607.

Residents’ Day and Car-Boot Markets
The Costa Animal Society would like to send out a big thank you to all of our volunteers who put in countless hours to make the CAS stalls at Residents’ Day in Nerja and the Sunday Car Boot Markets each week a smashing success.

All of the funds raised by our volunteers at these other CAS events go towards taking care of abandoned dogs and cats in our area.
