One burglar in Maracena had a seriously lack of foresight when he decided to rob a mattress shop – it’s next-door neighbour was the Guardia Civil post. This intrepid 39-year-old was caught red handed, not unsurprisingly.
The owner of the shop noticed that somebody had forced the door shutter, so he set off on an epic journey of 20 metres or so for the Guardia Civil post, only to be met halfway by a couple of Guardia Civil policemen. When the policemen and shop owner entered the shop it was to find the thief with five Nordic quilts in his optimistic possession.
Back at the police station they discovered that their catch was also allegedly responsible for carrying out a burglary on a perfumería, where he bagged 1,800 euros. Curiously, he denied that he had taken that amount and that he had only found 200 euros in the till… Furthermore, when he was arrested he had a small hammer on him of the type found on buses for breaking windows in an emergency.
Finally, the police are looking into whether our hero was also responsible for breaking into several cars between the mattress shop and the perfumería. Dishonest, perhaps, but not lazy.
