For the fourth consecutive year, Almuñécar enjoyed a kiddies’ Semana Santa parade; La Cofradía Infantil Los Macarenos. As you can imagine, it is a smash hit with adults and adoring parents.
Over 200 kids participated in this Semana Santa brotherhood, whose name, Los Macarenos, comes from the first Virgin effigy that they ever paraded: La Macarena de Triana.
Not only did they carry that particular throne, but they also bore miniatures of other brotherhoods, such as El Nazareno and La Virgen de los Dolores. The route of the children’s procession was lined with crowds, with everybody trying to get a photo in.
The procession set off from San Miguel, at the top of the old town, and wend its way through all the main streets, before passing before the official review stands in the Town Hall Square.
