Sinkhole Truck Trap

Have you ever had one of those moments when you wished that the ground would open up and swallow you? Well, for a Chinese trucker, that’s exactly what happened.

The truck driver was trundling along through Kunming, in the Yunnan province of China when a hole opened up beneath his vehicle. At over 30ft deep and 20ft wide, it is rather incredible that the chap survived at all.

“There was a rumbling sound and the ground started to rock. At first I thought it was an earthquake,” he explained to the local police. “Then there was a loud crack and I started to fall backwards as the truck was dragged into the hold. It was terrifying as I had no idea how far I was going to fall.” he concluded.

The incident could actually be a result of over development in China, where many underground rivers end up getting diverted because of nearby building developments, then cause the limestone foundation of the road to be eroded away, leaving just the tarmac on top, gleefully waiting for a vehicle heavy enough to try and cross it.

As it turned out, the trucker’s vehicle was so large that his cab managed to stay above ground. Mind you, it must have been very scary for the trucker who bore the only skid marks from the incident in his underpants.
