The Mayor of Almuñécar, Trinidad Herrera, inaugurated the Centro de Interpretación (museum) in the Castillo de San Miguel.
The ‘upgrade’ to the existing installations was done through the Iniciativa de Turismo Sostenible (ITS) and was actually carried out by Azafrán Producciones with a budget of 266.519 euros.
There were plenty of politicians, including two from the opposition PSOE; Francisco Prados and María del Carmen Ruiz. Also present was the Chairmen of the Hoteliers Association for Costa Tropical, Rafael Lamelas.
The work consisted of installing 14 points around the castle with information panels. There is also a display in the Torre del Homenaje, where visitors can learn about the three civilizations that passed through Almuñécar.
Another revamped feature is the Pabellón Militar, where visitors can see how the shape and size of the town evolved over the centuries.
For the more morbid amongst us, they also uncovered shackles in the castle dungeons, which are now on display.
Anyway, it’s worth a visit to see what has changed and at the very least, admire the views of the coast from up there.
