Spate of Burglaries in La Herradura

Several break-ins have occurred in the Urbanización Las Palomas area during the last week, the latest being on the night of Saturday the 16th.

The Guardia Civil have stepped up surveillance there and are on the lookout for one individual in particular – patrols are using a photograph to see if anybody has seen him in the area. According to residents, the suspect knows the houses and gardens because he used to be a gardener there.

The majority of the burglaries have been carried out in unoccupied houses in the area. It is thought that he has a skeleton key, enters with ease and only goes for money and never uses violence. In fact, he reportedly came across a woman during one of the burglaries and told her not to worry as he had no intention of hurting her and only wanted the money.

According to the police the man may have skipped prison whilst out on a weekend pass.

In the meantime, the First Councillor for La Herradura, Juan José Ruiz Joya, is calling for calm and not to spread alarm with Semana Santa coming up. He reassured residents that the Policía Local and Guardia Civil are constantly patrolling the area.

Meanwhile, the Seaside Gazette received an email about a week back warning of burglars on the prowl in Cotobro. Again, the target was an unoccupied houses.
