There is no doubt about it that the online social networks have made it possible to find old friends, relations and… lost dogs; such is the case of Neko.
Neko is a 4-year-old, Mastiff cross – big but playful. His owner, 30-year-old Rafael Pascual had accepted the dog when one of the workers on the Almanyár Industrial Estate (Granada) was trying to find a home for it. Now they are inseparable; their reuniting proves that.
At the beginning of January they had been out walking in the mountains above Güéjar Sierra, where Rafael lives. Along the way they crossed paths with a bitch on heat and before you could say, “It will all end in tears,” Neko was disappearing in the distance with other thoughts on his mind than human-dog bonds.
The next day came, and the next and the next and no Neko. Rafael put up missing-dog photos with his contact details all over Granada, because he received a message from somebody who thought that they had seen him there but it was to no avail.
Rafael like everybody of his generation, turned to the Internet social networks; in his case, facebook. And then he received a phone call… “In Pedregalejo, Málaga? But I live in Sierra Nevada!,” was how he expressed his surprise to the caller on the other end of the telephone line. The caller told him where to come and collect his errant Neko.
The caller, 31-year-old Rocio Guerrero, had told him that the an animal protection/refuge group where she worked was offering a dog up for adoption and that the dog answered to Neko’s description. The dog had been spotted on the beach 170 kilometres from where it disappeared. That Ladies and Gentlemen, is a long way to walk, even if it was for an understandable reason! Neko was happy enough on the beach because locals and bar owners were bringing him food.
Rocio explained that all her friends and acquaintances know that she works for an animal refuge centre, which is why some of her friends had sent a photo of the dog with a contact mobile number. Rocío spoke with the head of the refuge, which was already overflowing with abandoned dogs, asked her to put up the photo and contact details on their facebook account.
As cynical and satirical as the Seaside Gazette is, it’s always nice to print something positive like this.
