The Motril Town Hall is selling off publicly owned land to raise funds. One such plot is right next to the Guardia Civil building, occupied by a car park.
This piece of land is very centrally placed along the Avenida de Salobreña and the Town Hall reasons that its development will inject life into that area of Motril, as well as provide the town with funds.
The Vice-Mayor and Councillor for Infrastructure Management, Nicolás Navarro says that according to the Town-Hall experts, this 1,100-sq/m plot could fetch 2.5 to 3.0m euros. “We already have potential buyers and the Junta de Andalucia has given the go-ahead,” he says.
Once the land is opened up for bidding, offers that include commercial use; i.e., shops – at least on the ground floor – will have priority. The Vice-Mayor also assured that the money received from the sale will go to put some life into the municipal coffers, so that it can then be used for renovating the municipal market and its surroundings and La Plaza Tenería, where public lighting will be increased.
Finally, he pointed out that in order to sell the plot, in is necessary to modify the PGOU (Urban Development Plan), which is in the order of the day in the next Plenary Meeting of the Town Council. Other pieces of land that will included in the modification are: one in the Cooperativea Azucarera Remolachera and one next to the main fountain on Avenida de Salobreña, both of which are privately owned
