It only took the first four days of this new year to pass, for the first domestic violence related murder to take place, thus begins the new body count for 2013.

The murder took place in Valencia in a town called Benaguasil at 23.30h in Calle Cirilo Amorós. The 39-year-old man confessed to stabbing his ex-lover in the throat several times as they struggled in the street.

Witnesses who live in the said street had heard shouting and insults and had tried to convince the man to stop stabbing her. They also say that they saw him flee the scene of the murder in his car. According to these witnesses neither the man nor the woman live in the town, much less the street. Nobody attempted to physically intervene.

The victim leaves behind two children, one of whom belonging to her assailant,

Last year, Spain had on average, one women killed by her husband or partner every five days of the year.
