Pedestrian Killed in Torrox

A man was killed after being knocked down by a car on a road in Torrox, according to the Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico.

Dusk was just turning to night when the accident occurred at kilometre-point 20 on the A-7207 next to Bar La Mula. Both the 54-year-old pedestrian and the 22-year-old driver were taken to the Hospital Comarcal de la Axarquía.

The pedestrian died that same evening at around 22.00h whilst the driver, who had damaged his hand, was released from hospital at 23.00h.

It is still not clear who was to blame, whether it was the pedestrian stepping off onto the road or the car swerving onto the pavement.

This is the second fatal accident of this kind with the Axarquía within 24 hours: at 22.00h of the previous evening a 42-old-man from Barcelona was hit by a car; the driver fled the scene. The incident occurred on a service lane of the old N-340 at kilometre-point 269, next to the old Río Vélez bridge, near the entrance for Torre del Mar.

The allegedly hit-and-run driver was arrested twelve hours later, for unintentional homicide and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
