Four Footpaths for Hikers

The Almuñécar Councillor for Sports and the Environment, Luis Aragón, has inspected the information boards at four footpaths within the township as part of the Sustainable Tourism Initiative, with a budget of 40,000 euros, 60% of which was financed by the Junta.

Each route has two sign boards at either end, the exception being the circular footpath, Gelibra – Moscaril. There is a total of eight of these information boards, in two languages, explaining historical and geographical points of interest. Standard hiking information is also included, such as difficulty, length, estimated time needed to walk it and gradient.

“There are also two viewing points (miradores); one on the Cuesta Cordobilla -Lo Colorao footpath, and the other on the Cotobro – La Herradura route. Both lookouts have wooden handrails, and are paved with stones, having a dimension of 4 x 2 metres,” explained the councillor.

There will shortly be informative brochures available at the tourist offices on the four walking routes, he pointed out.

Finally, and as an aside, residents who were worried that the existing footpath between the Punta de la Mona and Cotobro, running through where the projected, 7-star hotel will stand, would be lost to public use, will be relieved to know that it is included amongst these four routes.
