The Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, is well known for her deadpan style when speaking to the media. Some have even said she is a little on the boring side as a public speaker. Well, a spoof video, available on YouTube shows her in a different light, still with the straight faced delivery, she explains how the Mayans were correct and the end of the World is nigh.
“My dear remaining fellow Australians,” was the way she addressed her people.
“The end of the world is coming. It wasn’t Y2K, it wasn’t even the carbon price. It turns out that the Mayan calendar is true,” she explains. Referring to the year 2000 computer bug and the carbon tax policy that caused much controversy in Australia in 2012.
She continued the 50-second speech explaining about roaming “flesh-eating zombies” and “demonic hell-beasts,” still with a straight face.
She went on to joke about the difficult TV show in which Australian politicians face difficult questions from a studio audience, “At least this means I won’t have to do Q&A again,” she quipped.
A Gillard spokesperson explained that the video, “was just a bit of fun, a bit of humor for the end of the year. Nothing else.”
They do like a good spoof the Australians… Oh well, at least she didn’t make a hoax phone call to a London hospital to try and find out about the condition of Prince William’s wife, Kate.
