Calle Chaparil Facelift

The Nerja Councillor/Delegate for Infrastructure, Antonio García, announced the forthcoming commencement of the roadworks on Calle Chaparil from Avenida del Mediterráneo up to the Plaza Tutti Fruti.

This work belongs within the Programa de Fomento de Empleo Agrario (programme for the fostering of agricultural employment) and carries a budget of 125,000 euros and is foreseen to take four months to complete.

The Councillor says that this work is necessary because the pavement has deteriorated so much that it has become difficult for pedestrians to use it. The idea is not only to improve it, but to also to sort out the curb.

The first step will be to demolish the existing pavement and the removal of existing vegetation, meaning that the affected trees will be substituted for ones that don’t cause so much damage with their roots. The displaced ones will be replanted near the fire station, where trees of the same kind have already been planted.

Editorial Note: Nerja is not the first town to use funds destined for agriculture on urban projects; Almuñécar has done the same, not without certain controversy because of it.
