Cambullón Resurfaced

The Salobreña beach road that leads from La Caleta, passing below the castle and ending up at the fairground behind the park, La Fuente, is being resurfaced – at last!

This road, known as El Camino del Gambullón, also serves La Guardia and is the most transited rural lane in Salobreña, which is probably why it has so many potholes.

The Councillor for Obras y Mantenimiento, Javier Ortega Prados says that this repair work is part of the Plan Encamina2, which means that the Junta is paying for most of it. The Plan Encamina2 also saw the resurfacing of the Camino de la Melcochera, by the way.

This rural area, hemmed in by El Peñon, La Caleta, the Castle and old town and the sea, was once a very productive piece of land but the farming has all but ceased since it was earmarked for four hotel projects, which, incidentally, are dead in the water, so to speak.

But back to the road resurfacing work; it has a budget of 75,155 euros, plus IVA, and will take roughly a month. The final result will mean that you can take this shortcut, avoiding the main road and town and end up at the Peñon, without rattling the rivets out of your vehicle – this lane is a Godsend once the summer traffic builds up on the N-340!
