Busy Weekend for the Police

The Motril Policía Local ended up arresting a total of nine people in three separate incidents over the weekend of the 6th/7th of October.

The first incident occurred on Saturday in Santa Adela (near the port) when a police patrol came across a man allegedly trying to enter a first-floor flat, whilst below was a woman sat in a van with the motor running.

The police frisked the couple, finding a screwdriver on one of them – both had criminal records for theft. The door to the flat also showed signs of somebody having tried to force it open.

The second incident happened in the early hours of that Sunday. A police patrol came across a van being driven around Barrio San Antonio with a young man hanging on in the back and the back doors open. Suddenly a crate of bottles fell out of the back and the van sped off in the Calle Antillas direction.

The patrol car managed to catch up with the van and forced it to pull over. Inside were five men, accompanied by a large sledge hammer, a torch, a pair of work gloves, a huge set of keys and other tools.

After detailed questioning on the spot the four admitted they had robbed a bar in the Calle Cementerio. Another patrol went around to the bar and found that it had indeed been broken into.

Two more individuals were arrested in a separate incident for assaulting a municipal policeman and a Guardia Civil policeman, who was off duty at the time. Both policemen were taken to Santa Ana hospital for a medical check up and to be treated for their injuries.
