Motril Cleaners Speak Out

Limdeco Exteriores, who carry out the municipal cleaning, has issued a press release putting forward their take on the situation.

As it is a publicly owned company, those that are responsible for the situation are the politicians that decided on the budget; i.e., those belonging to the PP, PSOE, IU, PA& CA.

Therefore, a budget was approved which was insufficient for the task and does not even cover the wages of the Limdeco staff. Limdeco considers that this is a deliberate policy to de-capitalize the company, which could constitute a criminal offense, punishable under the law. This consideration is being studied by the workers unions.

The Limdeco workers point out that at no time have they been responsible for the situation, yet they are being asked to pay the consequences. The Limdeco workers have accepted over 15% cuts in their salaries during the last three years, cutting back 800,000 euros on the budget.

The Limdeco workers also point out that they have accepted the loss to 30 workers’ posts, thus taking on greater quota of work on the remaining staff. The complain that the tool and vehicles that they are using are decrepit or defective.

In the meantime, they claim, the Town Hall has ‘handed out’ around 200,000 euros in ‘gratifications’ without consulting the Company Committee to politically chosen managerial advisers with a salary of 3,000 euros above the agreed amount contemplated by the Administrative Board.

Accordingly, the Limdeco workers call for the suspension of the management and administration to avoid a further deterioration of the situation or so that the same can use their post to conceal/cover up [incriminating information].

The workers also demand that the Technical Commission is set up, chaired by Mayor of Motril, in which all parts are represented in order to confront the situation and ensure the continued cleaning services and the 200 posts that make up the staff.
