Work on the new area (comarcal) fire station in Loja has ground to a halt after the construction company went bust, and it is not the first time that Loja has seen a virtually completed project wallow, dead in the water, in similar circumstance – the Residencia de la Misericordia, for example.
The Provincial Council has announced that the construction company, whose task it was to build this modern fire station, is only carrying out maintenance and custodial tasks on the site, whilst it goes through the process of going into receivership.
It was back in May that Luisa Chamarro, the Vice-President of the Provincial Council, stated that the project was only weeks away from completion. Right now, however, it is virtually impossible to give a completion date because the project is going through a judicial process, and we all know how slowly that works.
One day, however, it will be finished and operative, based in the Manzanil II industrial estate, giving coverage to 50,000 inhabitants spread between Algarinejo, Huétor Tájar, Montefrio, Moraleda de Zafayona, Salar, Villanuevade Mesñia and Zagra.
