Eight out of every ten people standing accused of a crime in Granada declare themselves as guilty one minute before their trial begins. This is called Sentencia de Conformidad, the figures for which have doubled in only one year. Consequently, the Tribunal Superior de Justicia de Andalucia is attempting to speed up the process by introducing more pre-trial hearings.
The arrangement appears similar to the American Plea Bargaining, as the incentive to not waste court time by putting you through the trial process is a reduction in sentence.
The percentage for Granada, then, is 78% of trials ending in this manner, where as the overall Andalusian average is 60%
