Most people can only feel disgust when they hear of an elderly woman in her 80’s being sexually assaulted. Equally, when these same people hear that a mother’s own children mistreat her, they feel equal repulse. So how would they feel upon hearing that a man in his forties sexually assaulted his own elderly mother? That is precisely what occurred in the province of Almería.

However, the Public Prosecutor recognised that one of the brothers is mildly mentally challenged and the other suffers from a ‘chronic and irreversible mental illness,’ and has accordingly reduced the severity of his recommendation of ten years, three months for one of them, and seven years, three months for the other, which has been accepted by both accused.

According to the Public Prosecutor, the brothers had been submitting their mother to all kinds of vexations, mostly verbal, since 2010. One of the insults offered was, “Why don’t you just die, you sack of bones.”

Things then degenerated further, reaching the point where one of them sexually molested his mother whilst he masturbated in front of her. The final straw was when they locked her up in the kitchen for several hours, until a neighbour came to her rescue by alerting the Guardia Civil.

The last threat that they managed to utter before their arrest was, “You had better not call the police, or we’ll be back with a shotgun. We’re going to have to kill you one of these day, throw you body in a rubbish container and nobody will know any different.”
