Am not entirely sure that this story really warrants inclusion, but as it involves a toilet we’ll let it go. So, it’s off to the town of Kuna, Idaho in the US.
Somehow, in circumstances that have not been made clear, a lady by the name of Mechelle Rieger managed to flush her diamond wedding ring down the toilet.
“I was freaking out,” drama queen Rieger said. “It was horrible and I just started screaming, I stuck my hands down the toilet, but the ring took off and it was long gone.” Mmmm… ‘the ring took off?’ Have you noticed how we have managed to refrain from saying, ‘only in the States’ up to now?
Anyway, poo fingers Rieger was distraught, that much we have established. In steps the valiant husband who reportedly took the toilet apart (lifted the lid and glanced down) and then went into the crawl space underneath the house to took all the piping apart, (sat out on the back porch, drinking a beer, occasionally shouting, “jeez it’s dark under here”) trying to locate his wife’s precious ring.
Back to the real reason for running with this story. The ring turned up… but 18 months later in a filtration basket at the local Kuna sewage works during routine maintenance.
The sewage workers, who were very honest despite having a shit job, cleaned the ring up and handed it in to the Town Hall, who put out advertisements asking the owners to contact them. Despite an avalanche of false claims, Mechelle Rieger, now with very clean hands, and her lying husband, turned up with photos and documents from a local jeweler who appraised the ring a few years previously, and claimed back the precious wedding band.
And they all lived happily ever after…
