Railings Replaced

The Nerja Councillor for Beaches, Sandra Jimena, has stated that the first phase of the work to replace the railings along the Paseo Marítimo next to Plaza de los Cangrejos has been completed.

The new railings have been installed from Playa de la Torrecilla to the central part of the Fábrica de los Cangrejos.

Sra. Jimena says that the Town Hall has made a request to Costas (seaboard authorities) for them to begin the second phase, to which the provincial Head of Demarcación de Costas, Angel González, replied that they were ‘studying’ the request.

Phase One had a budget of 50,000 euros, which has been spent on replacing around 200 metres of railings. The new ones, which are made from stainless steel, also include a sort of ledge that serves as a bench, all along the paseo.

The railings that were removed had been erected in the year 2,000, but have rusted away as the material used was not suitable for the corrosive quality of sea air. Was anybody sacked for such a ridiculous oversight? Of course not, but then again, that’s the same wherever you go, isn’t it.
