Almuñécar Municipal Market to be Reformed

The Town Hall has plans for the Municipal Market; they want to turn it into the nerve centre of the town, along the lines of the very well known San Miguel Market in Madrid.

One of the things to go will be the wall that surrounds the market, making it more open and accessible. There will also be more stalls.

Readers might remember a recent article in the Seaside Gazette referring to night-time thefts from the market, so the idea of getting rid of the railings and walls might seem a step in the wrong direction, but the Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, says that there will be a security guard on duty all night, every night.

Another sticking point is funds – there aren’t any – however the Town Hall is studying plans to raise the necessary funds.

Anyway, good luck on that one…
