… On the contrary, some gold stays in the dark! The Guardia Civil in Maracena arrested a gold dealer – in one of these prolific ‘we-buy-your-gold’ establishments – for allegedly forging purchase contracts.

The 24-year-old dealer did this so that it appeared that he had bought many more gold items than customers had actually sold to him, according to the Guardia Civil press release.

The police consider that this illicit manoeuvre was to disguise his handling of items of dubious origin. Gold & Jewellery dealers are obliged by law to hang on to purchased items for a minimum of 15 days – giving the police a chance to track down stolen items – before selling on the gold for melting down.
