Bogus Construction Company

The Guardia Civil has arrested a man in Pinos Puentes (near Granada) for allegedly charging 24,000 euros for a series of construction jobs that were never carried out. Why 24,000 and not a nice round 25,000 euros? Because 24,000 euros is exactly 4-million, die-hard pesetas – even after so many years, people might use euros, but they continue to ‘think’ in pesetas.

This 33-year-old man pretended to be the owner of two construction companies, according to the Guardia Civil, who advertise via the Internet, so that he could allegedly obtain the money from his victims. According to the police, the victim’s statement says she contacted the man and after accepting a quote price, put a 2,000-euro deposit into his account., This was followed by another payment of 7,200 euros, and finally 15,000 euros. These three sums were the deposits on three separated jobs – which, as we said, were never carried out.

Armed with her statement (denuncia), the Guardia Civil investigated the website and found that the company did not exist on the Mercantile Register, which soon had them fidgeting with their handcuffs and car keys…
