A 36-year-old man is facing 50 years in prison, standing accused of having stabbed to death his wife and 5-year-old son.

This tragedy took place in June 2010 although the trial is being held now. The reason given for the attack was that he had ‘received indications over the last few days that the world was ending,’ He therefore reasoned that the only way to save them from going to hell was to kill them.

According to medical reports, Cristóbal B.R. acted under the influence of an attack of psychosis of a multiform, filling his head with this idea making it impossible for him to resist the urge. The result was that his wife received 23 stab wounds and his 5-year-old son received seven, the first two of which were in the stomach.

The Public Prosecutor and the lawyer of a private lawsuit against the man sustain that the true motive of the attack was that the wife had the intention of leaving him, taking their son with her, pointing out that there had been incidents of domestic violence prior to the attack. The accused, however, repeated claimed that their relationship had been idyllic.

The defence lawyer, on the other hand, points out that in 1999 the accused was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, leading him to attempt suicide and his internment in a mental institution.

The accused said that he was lying in bed in the morning when the thought came into his head, so he ran down into the kitchen where his wife was preparing breakfast, accompanied by their son, grabbed a large knife and stabbed them both to death. He then claimed that he tried to kill himself, so that they could all be together, by throwing himself from the window. However, the police report claims that he tried to flee the scene of the crime by climbing down an electricity cable, but fell,  two floors and fractured his arm.
