Motril’s neighbourhood Associations Meet

The Councillor for Cooperation & Relations, Inmaculada Torres, together with Concepción Abarca, who is the First-Councillor of semi-autonomous council (ELA) Carchuna Calahonda, held the first combined meeting of 20 asociaciones de vecinos at the Matraquilla Centre – nobody was killed and eaten.

Sr. Torres was impressed that they had managed to get 150 locals from Motril and its municipal annexes together, “This is fruit of the hard work that we have been undertaking these last four years.”

So, what was the objective of the exercise? The concept, the councillors explained, was for the different asociaciones de vecinos to get to know each other… without bloodshed.. share how they get things done in their particular area, and for them to join hands to achieve their mutual objectives. Great stuff!

And that’s about it really, which does not mean that it was a small achievement: getting the combined egos of 20 presidentes to rub shoulders with similar demi-gods and lesser mortals without rivers of blood… or tears, at the very least, was an admirable achievement. Now, hopefully, they will be able to work hand in hand, without devouring the other person’s up to the elbow… bless them.
