With nearly two hundred runners taking part, participants were divided into age groups ranging between prebenjamín (6/7-year olds) to veterans.
In the seniors group the first over the line was the Salobreñero, Sergio Álvarez whilst the first in the ladies race was Melanie Rojas. In the Veterans group (the group with the largest number of participants) the first over the line was Manuel Valázquez.
The Councillor for Sports, Mari Carmen Callejón, was pretty chuffed that it had gone so well, exceeding cautious expectation. “Now the task is consolidating the event and push for more prizes, so that [Salobreña’s] San Silvestre becomes known around the province, attracting runners from all over,” she said.
She put much emphasis on the fact that the event was organised on a shoe string and depended on a lot of volunteer work, without which the event would not have been possible. For this reason she expressed gratitude on the part of the town to all the volunteers, amongst whom were members of the Club de Atletismo Villa de Salobreña, pupils from the TAFAD Course, who carried out all the time-keeping tasks. Also lending a hand was the Asociación de Mujeres Mudesa as well as a children’s club.
