It’s been around 30 years since los Salobreñeros lost their winter cinema – sure, in the summer, there are the open-air variety, (Cañaveral) but if you wanted to see a film in a cinema, you had to go to Almuñécar, Motril, or even El Ingenio in Vélez Málaga. Now that’s changed.
The same distributor that provides films for the Casa de Cultura de Almuñécar and Motril will now be providing the latest films for the auditorium, next to the Town Hall.
According to the Councillor for Culture, Antonio Rabaneda, the deal struck with the distributor will mean that on weekends and public holidays – as is the case in Almuñécar – there will be double sessions. The arrangement is that the Town Hall cedes the use of the auditorium to the company and they, in turn, have to organise and run the whole thing; i.e., provide the films and cinema staff.
Furthermore, the private company has agreed to improve the acoustic experience by installing a Dolby Sound System.
This is a very beneficial arrangement for the Town Hall as the joint venture will not cost them a penny and the money previously spent providing the occasional film can now be spent on other forms of entertainment.
The first film to be shown under this arrangement was The Adventures of Tintin on during the mini holiday at the beginning of the month.
