Otherwise-Inmates from the provincial prison of Albolote have been working around Salobreña, carrying out community work. The idea is that instead of going to prison, the person can repay his or her debt to society without having to actually serve time.

Since the new mayor took over, 16 persons that were found guilty of minor crimes, have been carrying out maintenance and cleaning work around the town.

The Mayor, Gonzalo Fernández Pulido, rates this move very highly, considering it is an excellent way to work towards social reinsertion and at the same time, give the town a helping hand.
