Salobreña Hat-Trick

Three items of news in one for this article, the first being the case of a man who was arrested in Salobreña after threatening a local with an antique pistol, fitted with a mini-bayonet. The 37-year-old Moroccan man was charged with the illegal possession of a firearm.

Not only was the presence of the double-barreled, 9 mm weapon illegal, but also the man who was brandishing it, as he had no residency papers.

The Guardia Civil also arrested a 53-year-old man for making a fraudulent insurance claim. He had reported a robbery at his home and the resulting theft of items valued at around 7,000 euros. The police were skeptical, to put it mildly, and so investigated the circumstances behind the alleged break-in, coming to the conclusion that there had been no robbery and that the man had purely needed a police report to make his claim to the insurance company.

As we mentioned in an earlier article, the Province of Granada leads the way in false insurance claims.

Finally, the Guardia Civil also arrested an 18-year-old Salobreña man for allegedly committing 14 instances of fraud, through selling pedigree puppies via Internet, charging up front. No puppies were ever sent, however. The police estimate that he ‘earned’ around 3,000 euros in this fashion.
