Mother and Son Arrested

A 53-year-old woman and her 18-year-old son were arrested by the Guardia Civil, standing accused of inventing two robberies to claim from an insurance policy.

The mother had reported a break-in during August of 2010 at their home in Castell de Ferro, with the resulting loss of money and jewellery amounting to 5,100 euros. Almost exactly a year later the son did the same, this time for 5,050 euros.

Naturally the Guardia Civil became suspicious as the robberies took place in the same house, under the same circumstances, for almost identical sums – not clever.

Consequently, the police carried out investigations in local jewelers and pawn shops on this part of the coast and soon came up with evidence that the missing jewellery had been sold to one of these establishments by the two people now under arrest and pending trial in Motril.
