Falling Baby Saved by Parked Van

(Alfacar, Granada) A fall from a 1st-storey balcony might not seem very high, but when its a 19-month-old baby, you would expect the 7-metre drop to be fatal or at least, but fortunately the child landed on the bonnet of a parked van.

The baby, the child of Moroccan parents, survived the fall but is in intensive car at the Hospital Infantil de Granada.

The baby was playing on the balcony with his cousins and 4-year-old brother when the accident occurred, around 18.30h. The rest of the family, including the mother, was inside – she was cleaning the house and was constantly checking to see that was all OK, but in one of the moments whilst she was not looking, the baby managed to climb onto a low table and from there topple over.

The child fell onto the slanting bonnet of the parked van and then bounced off onto the road, where passers-by immediately ran to its assistance – this isn’t China… The final impact on the road surface caused extensive damage to the child’s face, leaving him/her unconscious and with a feeble pulse, according to the ambulance team that raced to the scene.
