Around 20 streets within Salobreña will be resurfaced – work has commenced already. This project is part of the 2008 provincial development plan belonging to the Diputacion de Granada (provincial council).
The Mayor, Gonzalo Fernandez Pulido, considers that the reason these works are only being carried out now is because of a improvisation on the behalf of the previous municipal administration. This, he claims, led to a loss of 200,000 euros in grants, and as a consequence more streets cannot be included.
The works, which didn’t start until the end of the summer to avoid disrupting tourism, includes improving the gutters and drains in such areas as the Pontanilla. The Mayor hopes that this will prevent a repeat of flooding in that area.
The work has a budget of 250,000 and will be carried out in two phases.
