Motril Fair’s Positive Appraisal

According to the Vice-Mayor for Cultura y Gestión de Infraestructuras for Motril, Nicolás Navarro, despite the hard economical times the organisation behind the summer fair had doubled its efforts to provide more quality with fewer resources.

He considers that the move to combine the departments for Agricultura, Mantenimiento, Parques and Jardines avoided doubling up on services, thus cutting back on the overtime that the summer fair usually needs to function. The reduction was over 50%: 2010 needed 570 hours & 2011, 260 hours.

He considers that the Fiestas Patronales 2011 had a very high attendance figure, both at night and during the Feria de Dia. It is is also worth noting that Motril laid on an extra parking area for the fairground. On an editorial note, Almunecar continues to occupy it’s main parking area with the fairground attractions, thus actually diminishing parking facilities instead of increasing them. Perhaps a note should be made by the Almunecar Town Hall?

The crowning event of the Motril Summer Fiestas was, of course, the synchronised firework display to music at the hands of the Motril company, Pirotecnica Martin, which also provides the firework displays for neighbouring towns. In fact, this year, they have been hired for the Bilbao summer festival.

Finally, Sr. Navarro announced that there would be a ‘public consultation’ on where the new fairground should be, which was an electoral pledge.

The Councillor for Traffic & Citizen Safety, Manuel Ballesteros, reported that disturbances resulting in ‘denuncias’ had been halved. As well as the Policia Nacional, the Feria del Dia also used the services  of a private security firm.
